Pros:

1. Safe, Quality, Friendly Neighbourhoods

When you move to a suburb like Stittsville, you’ll be introduced to a quality neighbourhood with friendly neighbours and one of the lowest crime rates in the National Capital Region. In fact, Stittsville was voted one of the top 10 family-friendly neighbourhoods in Ottawa.

The majority of people who live in Stittsville are families. Known for its small-town feel, Stittsville is a great area to meet new neighbours and friends. Stittsville is filled with parks and fields within walking distance of most neighbourhoods, allowing your kids to run wild. It’s also a place where you can feel safe to live, with high participation in two core crime prevention programs; Neighbourhood Watch and the Home Security Inspection Program.

2. Plenty of Activities & Sports for Families

Sometimes with suburbs, it can feel as if there isn’t much to do with your family and friends. But, that’s the opposite of Stittsville. There’s a wide range of activities and sports targeted for all ages. From the arts to adventure, there should be plenty to do in Stittsville for you and your family. Here are some of the more popular activities people participate in:

Cons:

1. Lack of Events

Although Stittsville does have a vast majority of activities for families and friends to do, events aren’t very prominent. If you’re interested in concerts or festivals, you won’t find those in Stittsville. Most event-like activities in the National Capital Region, expect to travel to the many event spaces around Downtown Ottawa.

2. “Boring” Suburban Life

If you’re in love with the hustle and bustle of downtown life or the open and free rural life, suburbia may not be for you. The suburban life of Stittsville is quiet and predictable which for some, isn’t what they’re looking for in a neighbourhood.

3. Commute to Downtown Ottawa

Whether you’re travelling downtown for work, school or to have fun, one thing to consider is how long the travel is from downtown to Stittsville.

Similar to most neighbourhoods outside the Metro Ottawa Greenbelt, Stittsville is located about 31km from Downtown Ottawa. With that being said, most suburbs are located far enough away from Downtown Ottawa to require a pretty hefty commute – especially during rush hour. The commute from Stittsville to Downtown Ottawa is about a 45-minute drive while taking the OC Transpo can average out to more than an hour.
