About Pembroke
We’re Proud to Call Pembroke Home
Nothing beats a small city for great value in properties – you really do get more house for your money. Fans of heritage homes and larger spaces also find a lot to love about living in Pembroke.
But there’s more to Pembroke than safe streets and beautiful houses. Here’s why we love “the Heart of the Ottawa Valley”.
We Know How to Have Fun
We may be a small city, but we have more special events than most towns our size. Winter or summer, there’s always lots going on.
Pembroke has a lot to delight arts lovers of all kinds thanks to Festival Hall’s diverse calendar of orchestral music, comedy and theatre. The Streetlight Theatre Company and Stonefence bring Valley talent to the stage as well.
In winter, the Sno Spree gives Winterlude a run for its money, and every summer there’s fun for the whole family almost every weekend. The library always has lots of fun things for kids to do as well.
The city’s municipal site has a great public calendar of events.
Sports – Indoors and Outdoors
Canada’s hockey town has raised and trained some of the best players in history like Harry Cameron, Hugh Lehman and Frank Nighbor. The Lumber Kings Junior A team gives teams from the big cities a run for their money every winter, and helps players get ready for the big league. Meanwhile, on rinks across town, tiny players are building skills and having fun. If you’d rather be out on the trails there’s snowmobiling and snowshoeing galore.
We’re a hockey town in winter but when the ice melts you’ll find us enjoying the great outdoors. Pembroke has an abundance of world-class whitewater rafting on the Ottawa River, and is just an hour away from Algonquin Park. You can the right kind of adventure whether you’re looking for a nice hike with some great scenery or a challenging adventure. For those who love golf and fishing Pembroke has a some wonderful options.
Great Dining and Food
For such a small town, we have an incredible variety of dining choices, from quick and cheap to international cuisine. Pembroke Street West alone has dozens of tempting options.
From the middle of May to Thanksgiving, the Farmers’ Market brings dozens of local growers and artisans together Wednesdays and Saturdays at the corner of Lake Street and Victoria Street.
Pembroke – Your New Home
Our city has grown so much since it was a rough-and-tumble logging town in 1870s. Today we offer a great combination of modern living and old fashioned charm. If you’re ready to move in and around Pembroke, ask for your free moving estimate.
